Why It's Great
Modern Cuban Kitchen with Havana's Best Rum Bar
Cuban cuisine deserves celebration, and Gustazo provides the stage. Two blocks from Porter Square, this full-service restaurant and bar brings modern interpretations of traditional Cuban dishes alongside a curated selection of Cuban rums that rivals any collection in Boston.
The craft cocktail program builds on rum as foundation. Mojitos made properly. Daiquiris as Hemingway knew them. Creative interpretations that honor tradition while showing range. The bar alone would justify the visit.
But the food earns its place. Ropa vieja falls apart as it should. Mofongo satisfies on every level. The menu offers Cuban classics prepared with care and modern technique, neither museumified nor unrecognizably updated.
The space itself celebrates Cuban culture—bright colors, generous portions, an atmosphere that encourages lingering. Groups can accommodate up to 150 people, making Gustazo North Cambridge's default for celebration. Regular events keep the energy flowing.
Rum flight at the bar, then ropa vieja with plantains. Stay for live music if timing works.
