The George Howell Coffee brand launched in 2004, but its founder first opened The Coffee Connection in Harvard Square in 1975 — the specialty-coffee company he sold to Starbucks in 1994 before co-founding the Cup of Excellence program in 1999. The Mifflin Place café inside Lovestruck Books is effectively his return to the Square he pioneered.
